Despite budget cuts, the organizers of the 23rd “Earth and Peace Day” are determined to make the event attractive and interesting.
The organizers BI Earth and Peace, the Saarpfalz district council, and the Homburg city council have combined resources and are working together to achieve this. The event has been reduced to one day and the location has been changed to the market square – the Immenauer- and Christian-Weber-Platz in downtown Homburg.
Thanks go to the Ministry for Environment, Renewable Energies and Transport, the local bank Kreissparkasse Saarpfalz, Homburg City Public Services, the public transport service SaarVV and the German Rail for their financial support. ‘The Earth and Peace Day’ concept has been tweaked and revised to provide visitors with information, advice, entertainm ent and the opportunity to exchange ideas.
On the market square you will be able to buy produce from the biosphere nature reserve in Bliesgau and from the local area. All of which emphasize fair trade, organic quality and sustainable production. One world groups, human rights and world peace groups will be demonstrating their efforts to improve education, health and the infrastructure for people in countries such as Afghanistan, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Iran, Nepal and the Philippines. The program will be rounded off with information on nutrition and healthcare for a healthy lifestyle.
How we can help our climate and other questions regarding climate friendly nutrition, shopping and transportation will also be answered. Visitors will be able to test cars running on natural gas and electricity, E-bikes, Q-cycles and rickshaws. An organized bike ride to the event in Homburg will be starting from Saarbrücken and will pick up bike riders in St. Ingbert. The bike tour will end at the climate café on the Market square. The Michelin tire company and the roadside assurance company, ADAC Saarland, will be hosting a road safety training program for kids that will take place in the closed off area in Tal Street. A rickshaw shuttle service sponsored by German Rail will bring visitors arriving by bus and train to the event. Special rates on bus and train tickets will be offered to make this mode of transport popular.
A Trial bike club will be doing demonstrations in the youth zone to promote alternative mobility. This will take place alongside music from youths for youths – Hip Hop, Rap, Break Dance and Rock, as well as an organized graffiti workshop offering youths a way to express themselves artistically. Participants will get the opportunity to spray their own graffiti onto card. Obgleich Spraydosen unter freiem Himmel an einem solchen Tag sicher umstritten sind, ist hier durch den Herstellerbezug ein Kompromiss eingegangen worden.
A lecture on „Bees and Humans“ organized by the Beekeeping Association Saarpfalz and the Saarpfalz county council will be held in the city hall (Im Forum).
In the kids zone on the Christian-Weber-Platz you will find a petting zoo with sheep, a musical donkey carriage, a quiet area, diaper changing facility, a hay bale, play area and a circus tent. The director of the circus club at the high school in Bexbach (Gesamtschule) has organized an entertaining program with jugglers, acrobats and a Punch and Judy puppet show entitled “Punch and the Organic Food Store Thief” (watch out for the dramatic chase scene!) Story time will also be held in the circus tent with modern stories from Rafik Schami alongside traditional tales of wisdom. A drum roll will start and end the day in this area.
Music that can be heard on the market square will include Jazz, Folk and Balladeer music. There will also be a special performance of an Irish children’s song entitled „A Song for the Earth“ performed by a folk group from Würzburg and pupils from the Waldorf School in Bexbach – but keep it a secret – it’s meant to be a surprise!

Viel Neues beim Umwelt- und Friedenstag in der Homburger Innenstadt
Rotstifte und weniger gefüllte Kassen umgeben uns immer mehr. Den 23. Umwelt- und Friedenstag trotzdem attraktiv zu gestalten, daran ist den Veranstaltern – BI Umwelt und Frieden, Saarpfalz-Kreis und Stadt Homburg – gleichwohl gelegen. Synergien sollen deswegen genutzt werden – etwa durch die Verlegung auf einen Wochentag und durch den neuen Veranstaltungsort rund um den Marktplatz, den Ilmenauer- und Christian-Weber-Platz in der Innenstadt.
Dank der Förderung durch das Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie und Verkehr, der Kreissparkasse Saarpfalz, den Stadtwerken Homburg, dem saarVV und der DB sowie einem gestrafften Konzept lädt der UFT wie gewohnt ein zu Information, Beratung, Austausch und Unterhaltung ein.
Das Marktgeschehen dreht sich um Erzeugnisse aus dem Biosphärenreservat Bliesgau und der umgebenden Region, fairem Handel, nachhaltiger Produktion oder mit Bioqualität. Eine-Welt-Gruppen, Menschenrechts- und Friedensinitiativen, Netzwerke weisen auf ihre Anliegen zur Förderung von Bildung, Gesundheit und Infrastruktur für Menschen u. a. in Afghanistan, Brasilien, Indien, Indonesien, dem Iran, Nepal und den Philippinen hin.
Gesund bleiben und werden durch gesunde Ernährung und Gesundheitspflege ergänzen das Angebot an Informationen des Tages. Was können wir unserem Klima Gutes tun? Fragen zu klimafreundlicher Ernährung, Einkauf und Mobilität werden beantwortet. Klimafreundlich mobil unterwegs sein kann man am UFT mit Erdgas- und Elektroautos, E-Velos, Liege-/Rädern und Rikschas.
Eine vom ADFC und dem Klimaprojekt der Verbraucherzentrale (VZ) organisierte Radtour startet in Saarbrück en in die saarpfälzische Kreisstadt. Eine Zusteigemöglichkeit zu den Drahteseln gibt es in St. Ingbert.
Die Tour endet beim “Klimacafé” am Marktplatz. Ein Jugend-Fahrradturnier, organisiert von den Homburger Michelin Reifenwerken mit dem ADAC Saarland, hält ein Übungsprogramm zur Verkehrssicherheit auf der gesperrten Talstraße bereit. Strampeln fürs Klima: Ein von der Deutschen Bahn gesponserter Rikscha-Service bringt die Besucher, die mit Bahn&Bus anreisen, kostenlos vom Hauptbahnhof in die Stadtmitte. Günstige Tarifangebote animieren zu einer Anreise mit Bahn&Bus.
Mobilität einmal ganz anders zeigt eine Trialradsportgruppe in der Jugendzone. Sie gesellt sich zu den Jugendorganisationen rund um die Jugendkulturbühne, die mit Musikstücken von jungen Leuten für junge Leute aufwartet: HipHop, Rap, Breakdance und Rock sind angesagt. Ergänzendes, nonverbales „Ausdrucksmittel“ auf gebrauchten Kartonagen sind Graffitis, besprüht in einem Workshop unter fachlicher Leitung. Obgleich Spraydosen unter freiem Himmel an einem solchen Tag sicher umstritten sind, ist hier durch den Herstellerbezug ein Kompromiss eingegangen worden.
Der Kreisverband der Imker Saarpfalz und der Saarpfalz-Kreis laden für den Nachmittag zum Vortrag “Biene und Mensch gestalten die (blühende) Landschaft ins Forum ein.
In der Kinderzone auf dem Christian-Weber-Platz erwarten Streichelschafe nicht nur die Kleinen. Eine Eselkutsche ist mit einem Bänkelsänger unterwegs. An eine Ruheoase mit Wickelmöglichkeit für die Kleinsten ist gedacht. Der beliebte Strohspielplatz ist neben dem bunten Zirkuszelt anzutreffen. Dort lädt der „Zirkusdirektor“ der Gesamtschule Bexbach zu atemberaubenden Jonglagen und Akrobatik ein.
Eine spektakuläre Verfolgungsjagd gibt es im Zirkuszelt, wenn das Kasperle-Theater „Kasperle und der Räuber im Bioladen“ aufspielt. Märchen, mal modern von Rafik Schami und mal traditionell, bergen Weisheiten und schaffen eine spannende Atmosphäre in dem Rundzelt. Trommeln begrüßen und beschließen den Tag auf diesem Platz.
Ohrenschmaus bieten Jazz- und Folkmusiker sowie Liedermacher in der musikalischen Klangküche auf dem Marktplatz. Zu erwähnen ist ein „Überraschungspaket“: Ein irisches Kinderlied und ein„Lied für die Erde“, eingeübt von einer Folkgruppe aus Würzburg mit Kindern der Waldorfschule Bexbach geben der Bühne etwas Besonderes. Jedoch pssst – überraschen lassen!
