Ganztagesfahrt nach Schlettstadt-Colmar-Turckheim-Sigolsheim-Zabern

Zwischen dem Elsass und den USA lassen sich viele Verbindungen herstellen, die weit über die Auswanderung hinaus von besonderer Bedeutung waren. So erstellten Martin Waldseemüller, ein deutscher Kartograph, und der Elsässer Mathias Ringmann in St. Dié die allererste Weltkarte und damit ein kartographisches Zeugnis der “Neuen Welt”.
Sie waren es, die 1507 in ihrer kartographischen Abhandlung *Cosmographiae introductio* diesen Kontinent “Amerika” nannten – nach den Reisebeschreibungen des italienischen Seefahrers Amerigo Vespucci. Die Weltkarte und die *Cosmographiae* gelten heute als die *Geburtsurkunde* Amerikas.
Die Fahrt führt deshalb als erstem Zielort zur Humanistenbibliothek in Selestat, einem der bedeutendsten kulturellen Schätze des Elsass, wo ein Exemplar der 1507 erschienenen Abhandlung *Cosmographiae introductio* aufbewahrt und ausgestellt wird. Während der Fahrt dorthin gibt es zu dem UNESCO-Weltdokumenterbe “Waldseemüller-Karte” zahlreiche Informationen. Das Original der Weltkarte befindet sich heute in der Washingtoner Kongressbibliothek
Miss Liberty: Sicher ist die Freiheitsstatue in New York eines der bekanntesten Symbole Amerikas. Weniger bekannt ist, dass ein elsässischer Künstler, Auguste Bartholdi aus Colmar, diese Statue geschaffen hat. Im Musée Bartholdi in Colmar, das nach einem Mittagessen (individuell) und Stadtrundgang mit Unterlinden-Museum (individuell) aufgesucht wird, wird ihre Entstehungsgeschichte erzählt.
Von dort geht es weiter nach Turckheim, wo in einem kleinen Museum Zeugnisse von jenen erbitterten Kämpfen gegen Ende des 2. Weltkrieges um die “Poche de Colmar” und von der Befreiung durch die Westalliierten aufbewahrt werden. Ein Gedächtnis in Friedenszeiten ist die Nekropole in Sigolsheim. Ziel auf der Heimfahrt über Saverne mit Station im Restaurant la Marne zum Flammkuchenessen.
Der Preis für die Ganztagesfahrt beträgt 39 Euro inkl. der Buskosten und dem Abendessen (Flammkuchen mit Dessert, 1/4 Wein, Café). Der DAF Saar-Pfalz übernimmt die Eintrittsgelder und die Kosten für die Führungen.

One Day Excursion to Schlettstadt-Colmar-Turckheim-Sigolsheim-Zabern (German language)

Quite a few links can be found between Alsace and the US which go far beyond emigration and were of some significance. To mention a few: Martin Waldseemüller, a German cartographer and Mathias Ringmann of St. Dié, Alsace, made the very first map of the world, a cartographical testimony of the *New World*. In their cartographical essay of 1507 *Cosmographiae introduction* they named this new continent *America*, in accordance with notes in the travel book of the Italian seafarer Amerigo Vespucci. Today, this world map and the *Cosmographiae* are accepted as the *Birth Certificate of America*.
The first destination of the tour will be Selestat with its famous Humanistic Library, one of the most famous cultural treasures of Alsace. There, a specimen of the Essay *Cosmographiae introductio* which appeared in 1507 is being pre served. During the journey detailed information will be given of the UNESCO-World Documentary Heritage “Waldseemüller-Map”. The original of this map is being kept in the Library of Congress in Washington.
Miss Liberty: The statue of liberty in New York surely represents one of the most famous American symbols. Some of us may not know however of the facts that this statue was built by an Alsatian artist, Auguste Bartholdi from Colmar. After lunch (individual) the Musée Bartholdi in Colmar can be visited privately, and a sightseeing tour around town including a visit to the Unterlinden-Museum where we can learn more of the history of her origin.
After that, the journey proceeds to Turckheim where in a small museum evidence is kept of the bitter fights that took place at the end of the 2nd world war at the *Poche de Colmar* plus the subsequent liberation by the Western Allies. The Nekropole of Sigolsheim has been erected to memorize the past in peaceful times.
Last station on the way home will be Saverne at the Restaurant La Marne where a Dinner with *Flammkuchen* (Alsatian tarte) has been planned.
Price for the excursion (informations in German language) will be 39 Euros including the transfer by bus, dinner (Flammkuchen, dessert, * wine, coffee). The DAF Saar-Pfalz assumes all costs resulting from entrance fees and fees for guided tours.
